Friends,
As the new year gets underway, I’m deeply grateful for the members of Trinity who have offered themselves for service on our Vestry. The Vestry is a lay leadership body that works in close partnership with the Rector for the good of the parish.
There are many ways to define leadership. One of the best I’ve heard goes like this: “Leadership is a process that enables individuals to work together to achieve results they could never achieve working alone.” In many ways, that is exactly the work of the Vestry—to help all of us at Trinity act together in response to the grace of God, for the sake of the Church and the world God loves.
The word vestry is an historic term. It originally referred to a particular room in a church where leaders gathered to meet. Over time, the name of the room became the name of the group: the Vestry.
This coming weekend, Trinity’s Vestry will meet in retreat at Lake Logan Conference Center. We’ll spend time getting to know one another better, revisiting our roles and responsibilities, reflecting on Trinity’s mission and vision, and clarifying how each of us will serve in the year ahead. We’ll also prayerfully consider the priorities and goals that are presenting themselves to us at this point in Trinity’s life.
When you see a member of the Vestry, please thank them for their service—and please hold them in your prayers as well.
In the Episcopal Church, two members of the Vestry serve as Senior Warden and Junior Warden. This year we give thanks for Craig Weeks, our Senior Warden, and Nancy Dexter, our Junior Warden, and for their steady leadership on behalf of the whole parish.
By grace,

Scott +
