Established in 1847, Trinity Episcopal Church is a historic parish in downtown Asheville, NC. Our building is old and beautiful, yet our mission is contemporary and forward moving. Though the ways of Trinity may seem filled with tradition, you will find a parish very much connected with the modern questions and struggles of life. Trinity Church is a community of people called to serve those in need in our city, in our nation, and around the world. Trinity Church has ministries for children, youth, parents, seniors, individuals, and families in all configurations and stages of life. 


The Associate Rector works in close partnership with the Rector to execute the full range of ministries at Trinity Episcopal Church. He or she is a trusted colleague and committed cleric, who appreciates the challenges and joys of wide-ranging parish ministry and who relishes opportunities to deepen the faith of members of the parish. The Associate Rector shares fully in liturgical responsibilities, including preaching. 



  • In collaboration with the Rector, celebrates the Sacraments, prepares candidates for Baptism and Confirmation, preaches the Word, and provides pastoral care.

  • Serves as Chaplain to our children/youth and participates actively in their programs and oversees the staff of these ministries.

  • Participates in the discipleship and development of lay ministry and small group leaders. Exercises leadership in faith formation programs for all ages.

  • Contributes wisdom and insight as a key member of the leadership of the parish.

  • Supports with enthusiasm and a sense of collaboration with Trinity’s staff members and lay leaders. Provides theological underpinning to their work.

  • Undertakes special projects from time to time as directed by the Rector.  Participates in diocesan committees and ministries as needed.


Qualities of the Ideal Candidate


  • A calling to joyful and sincere attention to children, youth, and parents.  

  • Ability to articulate the faith and its theological foundations, with special attention to making these accessible to children and youth.

  • An appreciation for the traditions of Anglican worship.

  • A true interest in being with people in joy, sorrow, and ordinary encounters; an upbeat demeanor and positive attitude toward ministry in all its facets; a generous approach to life’s complexities.

  • Excellence in preaching.

  • Self-driven and proactive.

  • A commitment to social justice education and initiatives.

  • Openness and inclusivity toward all persons.



  • Master of Divinity or higher degree

  • Ordained in The Episcopal Church

  • Experience and excellence in leading worship, preaching, pastoral care, and faith formation




  • Salary commensurate with experience. 

  • Health Insurance according to Diocesan Policy at 80% coverage for a single plan. 

  • Applicable Church Pension

  • One Month Vacation including four Sundays. 

  • Continuing Education of One Week and financial support
